The Federal Supreme Council is the highest constitutional authority in the UAE. It is composed of the seven rulers of each of the emirates. The Council meets four times a year to establish general policies and promulgate federal laws.
The
President and vice president are elected by the Supreme Council to serve for a five-year
term of office. The last election held in 1996.
